Bio
Growing up in Vancouver, British Columbia, Alexz is the 6th child in a family of 10. At 15 she began writing her own music alongside her brother Brendan. She is most commonly recognized from her lead role as musician Jude Harrison in Instant Star, a Gemini Award winning drama series that premiered on CTV and on The N Network (Nickelodeon) in the U.S. in 2004. The series has since been licensed in 120 other countries worldwide. Instant Star gave Alexz and Brendan the opportunity to write songs that were featured on the soundtrack for all four seasons of the series. Continuing to focus on her own music, Alexz signed a deal with Capitol-EMI Records in 2006, but just before starting the album, executives who had signed Alexz were released from their contracts. In 2008, Alexz won the Gemini Award for Best Performance in a Children's or Youth Program or Series, and continuing to write with her brother, Epic Records signed her to a multi-album deal. All the songs on her first album with Epic were co-written by Alexz and Brendan and produced by Greg Wells in Los Angeles. Epic Records then underwent major internal changes and the music was never released. Alexz and Brendan were finally free to record and release new songs on their own terms and in 2009 Alexz released her debut album "Voodoo" on inDiscover Recordings in March 2010. The first single for the album was entitled "Trip Around the World" and the music video was filmed in New Orleans, January 2010. In late summer of 2010, Demo Castellon (Timbaland, Madonna, Missy Elliott) began to work on remixes of each song from Voodoo. The Voodoo Reloaded Collection was released April 26th 2011 and followed were two single releases and music videos for "Boogie Love" and "Look At Those Eyes", both shot in Toronto. After choosing to part ways with her current label, in August 2011 Alexz and her brother Brendan decided to release a compilation of their original demo's entitled The Basement Recordings at www.thebasementrecordings.com. Recently Alexz has re-launched her website, premiering a new music video promo for her song "Skipping Stone".
