perro closed it out and we did alright
the highlights were guest spots by delmos on the dub tracks, toko and doug on "your only livin once" and an all star closer of " slowride " with the one kelly on drums. so dope!

    COSTA RICA IS NEXT
  • COSTA RICA WAS BADASS!!

damn, where to start. we flew in and headed straight to the nosara region and playa guiones. we were greeted by a family of howler monkeys making their way along the barbwire

we past the banana bar and were stoked to see they had a big sign for us

we checked in to hotel kaya sol and just as we were grabbing our gear bombard pulled up. ryan kicke off this whole trip because he has been trying to get me to bring a band down for a couple years now. he lives in guiones area with his family and runs agua azul charters and the SIBU sanctuary ( they rescue wild animals, we got to play with baby monkeys )

we met dave next and he hooked us up with a couple long boards. we got some really clean shoulder high peaks at glass off even though we had been up for 36 hours! play guiones is a sweet break and a beautiful unspoiled beach

the next day we surfed in the morning and then chilled out till the first gig. our main man dr. alejandro had everything hooked up and it was a reel deal show with lights and a booming p.a. he even hooked up a sponsor, cushe footwear, cool ass shoes and cool ass dudes eric and roberrto. i was a little took back because when i went to sing the first song there was a 2 inch tall, orange and blue mantis on my mic and looking me dead in the eye. he hung out for a couple tunes, this was the third of 3 encounters with a mantis for me in as many months. does anyone know what this means?
anyway the show was kick ass and the crowd went nuts. we had met a local musician and teacher named christy massey and, the next day, she invited us to a party in the hills at a mansion that belonged to this cool cat named steve. it was an unbelievable view and when we walked in he had n. young and crazy horse blasting, real celestine prophecy shit at this point.

after the sun set we all went to the gilded iguana to
eat but then we decide we should jam. we rounded up every piece of equipment in the area and hooked it up. we could'nt fin a drum kit so mudd played on a guitar case, punk! we even backed christy on a few tunes.

we boned out the next morning and headed south to dominical. the morning before i left i had got a call from my homie jamin of the band thicker that thieves, i knew he was in costa but did'nt know how to get ahold. he tracked me down through troy!! thanks girl! jamin has the band together and was playing in dominical anyway, fate shit. he set us up a gig but we got into town hella late and missed it. he tracked us down the next morning and him and his brother in law sparky decide to follow us down to pavones

before we left, we met josh from bar maracatu and he said we could play 2 days later on our way back, tight! the road to pavones was gnar gnar rasta, major flooding and shit but it was a super fun road rally

we got to pavones after sundown and there was zero moon too check the point so we had to wait for morning to know if we scored.
it was a trip returning to the south. i had'nt been in that neck since 2001 with loudog. we found la ponderosa witout a hitch and it was cool to re connect with marshall and angela.  marshall and his brother brian created the , hands-down, bombest hotel in the area. lush grounds, ocean front, secluded, paradise. we were never able to arrange a gig in town, so on wed marshall fired up the grill and we did an acoustic jam in the lounge, we even skyped it to ed in huntington beach. we worked out a couple of jamins tunes and he was all set to jam with us from there out.

it was real f**kin hard to leave man. that wave, la ponderosa.

we made good time back to dominical and went to check in at the bar. everyone was pumped and even though he only had a couple days josh got the word out and a good crowd showed up. we played a couple sets and people went off. thanks josh!

jaco was next. it was beyond surreal to return to civi after 6 days in the jungle. we met up with nino koi, a cool new band from san jose, costa rica. we had emailed alejandro and he threw t.t.t. on the bill as well, so we had a show! nino koi = band to watch so don't sleep, thicker than thieves = coming back strong, bar tabacon = kick ass. the bombards, cushe guys, and alejandro's crew all met up with us, so along with nino koi and t.t.t, we had the whole team under one roof, major!

it was even harder to leave the coast the next morning than leaving pavones. heading inland was a weird after looking at the ocean for so long. we headed back to the san jose and checked in at the latino rock cafe. it was a shock to find out it was a big ass venue! the headliner calle has been around a long time as it turns out. they are on the come back trail too, the singer was alejandro the promoter / doctor! ( check out his old school sublime cohiba shirt ) we were pretty burnt and my voice was shot but we rocked out anyway. the crowd was nuts, did i forget to mention jaco was uber-nuts? anyway we played caress me down as the last song and it was a fitting tribute to big brad. i'd like to think that he would have enjoyed our little adventure alot.

thats the meat of it. just wanted to get some words and photos up for all the folks who helped out and lo siento if i missed anyone!

    see you next year.
