Bio
BIOGRAPHY Bassel Al-Madani's sophomore effort, "Submerged," was released in June 2010 at Used Kids Records in Columbus, Ohio. His first full-length album led to an array of interviews, write ups, and shows within the Midwest and Northeast regions. Shortly after the conclusion of his first four-week tour, Bassel was invited to perform at the Pelotonia opening ceremony with The Counting Crows & Augustana in the bike ride to end cancer. Since his relocation to Chicago in the fall of 2010, Bassel's style has taken on a fresh flavor combining his taste for indie-folk (Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens) and 60's era soul music (Otis Redding, Al Green, The Temptations). His 5-piece Chicago ensemble released an acoustic EP on January 7, 2012 at Subterranean. They will be releasing a new full band EP, out of Hinge Studios in Chicago, in the fall of 2012. -

BASSEL & THE SUPERNATURALS
BASSEL & THE SUPERNATURALS is a project based currently in Chicago, IL.
Bassel Al-Madani’s sophomore effort, “Submerged,” was released in June 2010 at Used Kids Records in Columbus, Ohio.
Since his relocation to Chicago in the fall of 2010, Bassel’s style has taken on a fresh flavor combining his taste for indie-folk (Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens) and 60’s era soul music (Otis Redding, Al Green, The Temptations). His 5-piece Chicago ensemble released an acoustic EP on January 7, 2012 at Subterranean. They will be releasing a new full band EP, out of Hinge Studios in Chicago, in the fall of 2012.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Bassel grew up in Kent, OH. With extensive family in the Middle East and his childhood based in Ohio, his artistic influences varied quite drastically.
While spending his earliest years performing as a percussionist and violinist, Al-Madani began songwriting in 2003. His early ideas were inspired largely by the likes of Ben Gibbard, Mike Kinsella, Andrew Bird, Sufjan Stevens, and a multitude of notable indie rock & folk acts. After the completion of his full-length album (2010), his pallet adapted towards classic soul artists such as Al Green, Otis Redding, and The Temptations. His ideas have thus developed into an interesting hybrid that is best experienced in any live dynamic, where Bassel seems to feel as comfortable on stage as he does in his own living room.

DISCOGRAPHY
Submerged (2010)
Submerged was Bassel's first full-length effort. Born out of multiple basements & living rooms between December 2009 – February 2010, all of the album tracks were produced and arranged over the course of many, many in-studio tracking sessions. All songs are were created and produced by Bassel Al-Madani, with the collaborative effort of many notable Ohio-native artists.
"The LP's name conjures images of being deluged under heavy water, but instead his sophomore release is light and airy, the name being more reflective of the intricacies of the deft layers of production that typify his tracks... each of the 10 tunes of his album feels firmly in the singer-songwriter vein and Bassel does the part of carrying each one. While the sounds are often intricate, it's also straightforward and euphonious music. His smooth voice sings warmly, drifting over acoustic instruments, making good listening for the clear skies of a Saturday morning sans the wretched influence of a whisky hangover."

Self-Titled EP(2008)
In the summer of 2008, Bassel collaborated with Ahmed Gallab [Yeasayer & Sinkane] to produce his first self-titled EP in Columbus, OH. The EP was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Relay Records.
"Sincerely, the best song here, and closest to the energy these guys will take your mind with is "Light". (Thom) Yorke and (Jesse) Lacey are both licking their chops if they heard the progression of instrumentation and melody here... I'd certainly agree that the progression of Bassel is something to look out for in future recordings."
- Music Emissions. 11.6.2009

BASSEL & THE SUPERNATURALS
The recent release of Bassel's full-length album, "Submerged," fueled significant momentum coming into Chicago. Upon the conclusion of his summer tour, he moved to Chicago and quickly began collaborating with The Supernaturals.
An unofficial full band debut took place at the Pelotonia 2010 Kickoff, where Bassel performed as the direct support for Counting Crows & Augustana. The official debut of with The Supernaturals took place on October 26th at Double Door in Chicago, IL.
Bassel's first EP release was in 2008. His full-length album (Submerged) was released at Used Kids Records in Columbus, Ohio in Spring 2010.
Bassel grew up southeast of Cleveland, OH. With extensive family in the Middle East and a home base in Ohio, his artistic influences varied drastically throughout his childhood. As his passions for music unfolded in early years, he found a love for rhythm and began as a percussionist.
Bassel's passion for music creation and his growing knowledge of musical theory over the next few years led him to pick up guitar at an early age. By manipulating his guitar, he took on quite a unique style of playing music. He utilizes altered tunings on a 5-stringed Martin DM Acoustic Guitar. Combined with folk/jazz influences in his vocal techniques, his songs tend to lead you in every possible direction and then back again
Self-Titled EP (2008) In the summer of 2008, Bassel teamed up with Mark Himmel & Ahmed Gallab to produce his first self-titled EP in Columbus, OH. The EP was then recorded, mixed, and mastered at Relay Records.

After a short-lived run in 2009 with Columbus-based “The Partisan Press,” Bassel dived even deeper into his solo work.
Submerged (2010)
The result was Submerged, his first full-length album. Born out of multiple basements & apartment-style living rooms from December 2009 – February 2010, this new direction incorporates a very folk-influenced artistic concept, a wide instrumentation, and a nostalgia of the many obstacle courses faced throughout its making.
