Chayanne is recognized throughout Latin America as a Pop music icon, whose success is solidified through his completely sold-out concerts worldwide and complemented by the longest and most complete touring schedule in this music genre. The Puerto Rican star has recorded 20 albums to date, 5 as member of the popular boy band Los Chicos, and the remainder as soloist with his label Sony BMG. He has topped radio charts with countless hits that have successfully placed him in the # 1 spot of the renowned Billboard Magazine. His first hit "Fiesta en América" highlighted his creative vision by incorporating choreography and dancers to his productions, leading the way to a new concept, later adopted by numerous other artists. The popular choreographer Kenny Ortega directed the video "Este Ritmo Se Baila Así", which not only won him an MTV Music Award, but also opened the door to new markets and earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Performance. Chayanne's solo career skyrocketed swiftly and in 1989 he was chosen by Pepsi as the spokesperson for their first major international publicity campaign. It was during the broadcast of the Grammy's that the commercial claimed its place in history by becoming the first Spanish language spot aired in a solely American TV network, with no subtitles or dubbing. Between tours and recordings, Chayanne dedicates his time and efforts to serving in diverse social conscience organizations, and as such in 1982 he was named Special Ambassador to the UN International Immigrants Foundation in recognition of his strong humanitarian labor. The album Volver A Nacer emerges after a brief hiatus and marks a pivotal point in his career, consolidating him as one of the most influential artists in Latin America and opening the doors to Spain. In 1998, his song "Salomé" from the album Atado A Tu Amor peaked at #1 in all the radio charts. Chayanne's success is such that his album breaks record sales with over 1 million copies sold, positioning him as the most important artist in the Spanish Peninsula that same year. His success transcends to Italy, Turkey, Portugal, Sweden, and France, where he attains a Gold record, without any radio airplay. His rhythm and boundless energy were more than enough. While "Salomé" was conquering Europe, the ballad "Dejaría Todo" topped the radio charts in Latin America, becoming one of his signature concert songs, always requested and chorused by his adoring fans. Chayanne has also excelled as an actor, starring in soap operas, mini-series and movies in Puerto Rico, Mexico and Argentina. On the big screen, he starred in "Los Chicos En Conexión Caribe" and "Linda Sara" directed by Jacobo Morales. Later he was the leading man to Vanessa Williams in "Dance With Me" which added to his international success and opened the door to his participation as guest star in the famous US TV series 'Ally McBeal'. In 2000, Chayanne released Grandes Exitos, his first compilation of greatest hits in CD and DVD, supported by an extensive worldwide tour. "Torero" became the tour's banner song, while the first single "Y Tu Te Vas" was chosen "Song of the Year" by Billboard and radio. The album was the year's best seller in the Latin market. Sincero with its chart-topping hit "Un Siglo Sin Ti" follows in 2003, with Desde Siempre and Cautivo both launched in 2005. Cautivo featured the mid-tempo "No Te Preocupes Por Mi" and the ballad "Te Echo De Menos". Mi Tiempo, recorded in 2007 and produced by the renowned Colombian producer Estefano, is immediately followed by a year and a half worldwide tour that took Chayanne to more than 30 countries in four continents, with an impressive record of 127 packed venues. The highlight songs of this tour are "Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo" and the upbeat "Lola", demonstrating yet again that Chayanne is a mix of rhythm and romanticism. The enormous success of this tour ignited the idea of creating a live project, giving rise to Chayanne-Vivo, his first ever DVD and CD of a live concert recorded at the Monumental River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina before a standing audience of more than 60,000 fans. Chayanne captivated his audience with his classics, including a medley of his hits "Este Ritmo Se Baila Asi/Baila, Baila", "Dejaría Todo", "Torero", "Provócame", "No Te Preocupes Por Mí", "Si Nos Quedara Poco Tiempo", "Salomé" and "Lola". Chayanne is currently starring in "Gabriel" the first Latin, High Definition mini-series which has already received great acclaim from both viewers and critics alike. Chayanne's career is undoubtedly an example of discipline, professionalism, well-rounded talent and charisma, which have won him the admiration of audiences of all ages around the globe.
