Here's our bio in a blog so we don't have to put it on the front page...
Chris and Clay are the embodiment of the classic high school sweetheart story. Chris was a yankee from Michigan that migrated to Lexington, SC, where Clay grew up. Having known each other since intermediate school, they began dating at age 16. Both were in the Lexington High School marching band, in which Chris played trumpet and Clay played french horn and mellophone. For their senior year (1993-94), after having been invited to the Macy's Parade the previous year and having seen Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, Chris and Clay played "All I Ask of You" from the musical as a duet during their state championship-winning marching season. It goes without saying that music has always been an important part of their relationship.
Chris had been playing acoustic guitar from a very early age, including being tutored by a bluegrass-band fronting virtuoso for several years. She and her friend Tasha would often write songs in their middle school years, but she played less and less as the years went by. Clay never played another instrument following high school, though he tried to pick up guitar, but didn't "think" in chords.
In 2005 Clay and a friend began doing some cover songs with Clay singing. The band grew into a four-piece with JD, Nety, Chris, and Clay, and they called the band The Villains. Clay picked up an acoustic/electric bass and instantly fell in love. The Villains recorded many cover songs - see the videos for "Yellow" and "Plush" by clicking on our "Videos." JD and Clay began playing with Johnathon and Kathleen later that year, primarily to record music for the Atlanta 48-Hour Film Festival (see http://www.myspace.com/surfing_buddha for the film), though their chemistry led to the group http://www.myspace.com/venousflow, which is still recording new songs.
Since Venous Flow broke off from The Villains, Chris and Clay decided to start writing original songs themselves. The first song they wrote entitled "Envelope" was originally to a melody Chris wrote prior to her teen years. Clay convinced her to lay the melody and chords down, and he wrote the lyrics on top. The creativity keeps flowing, and Chris and Clay have written and recorded tons of other songs.
Check out another blog we wrote that has all of our lyrics so far. You can see the video for another song here called "Andy." Also, visit our Pure Volume site (http://www.purevolume/chrisandclay) to hear a couple of other songs that you won't find here! Another blog lists the songs that we have available online. We hope to release a full-length album of our stuff by the end of Summer '07!
