About me:

It won't take long before you notice that his shoes are untied. His haircut is stupid. He, unlike most males in the city of self-indulgence, refuses to shave his chest. His shirt that reads "I make stuff up" probably needs a wash. Yet, as you pass judgment on him, feeling certain that he's another pale slacker doing nothing with his life, he hands you his directing reel. You decide to put it in and watch. Within the first minute, the beast becomes... well, a bit more beautiful. This is director Danny Roew. He was never really good with first impressions.

Recently Danny's short comedy entitled "Dog Lovers" screened at Sundance and he is currently developing it into a feature. Notorious for making something out of nothing, Danny has also directed a variety of music videos and projects that have gone onto premiere on MTV, Fuse and other festivals around the country. Aside from shooting videos and funny narratives about doggy porn (really, you should have watched the reel by now), he has also lent his talents to high profile commercial clients such as Starbucks as well as creating demonstrations for Fox and Microsoft. Danny also frequently works as a reality director on shows such as CBS's "Big Brother," and Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" as well as producing several pilots of his own. Then at some point between unemployment and boredom, Danny also finds the time to produce documentaries such as Tha Westside and shoot DVD featurettes for films such as The Cavern. Go rent them at Blockbuster... Or Netflix. Whatever. He just might be one of the few multi-hyphenated people out there that really can do everything, even dunk a basketball at the age of 17.

Born in Wichita, Kansas, in a home that lies somewhere between where Wyatt Earp ceased a brothel and the original Pizza Hut opened its doors, Danny had knack for visual storytelling. Throughout his youth, mastering a family-owned flatbed and several low-end cameras from parts unknown, Danny honed his abilities as a filmmaker and photographer before even going to film school. It was at Southern California's Chapman University that Danny turned sheer interests into superior talents, helming several short films and expanding his vast array of knowledge in every step of the filmmaking process. A man of many talents in both physical and postproduction, Danny was recognized as a one-man band. A DP by day and an editor by night, Danny's wisdom, experience, and off-beat character would find little trouble making it in the real world after graduation... Working as both an independent artist and a non-traditional businessman, Danny's network paid off after building a production company with an Olympic sized pool of talent he works with on a regular basis. And while he'd prefer, at times, to work with a large amount of cash to spend on fancy crane shots and deluxe craft service tables, Roew realizes that "It's fun to take a risk on undiscovered talent, even if that means cutting all costs."

Yes, his haircut will probably always be stupid, and in some countries hair on a man's chest is a trophy for their tolerance of spicy food, but please, take a closer look past the surface and discover a guy that's every bit as good as the other guy you're considering to direct your video... but for a 1/3 of the cost and 100 times the enthusiasm. Oh yeah, and in case you care, Danny has more friends on MySpace Film than many rock stars do AND actually attempts to comment everyone who expresses any enjoyment from his work.

Somewhere between substance and style with a sense of humor and a bit of sarcasm, Danny makes it quite obvious that he can turn water into wine... or at the very least, a margarita with the right amount of salt.

Who I'd like to meet:

old friends and lovers, good people, other artists, potential clients, people with a sense of humor, other dog lovers, anyone who likes music videos!
