  • Don't Drink And Drive

    Current mood:sad

Every 30 minutes, someone is killed in an alcohol-related crash. In all 50 states, it is against the law to drive while intoxicated. The legal limit of alcohol content in the bloodstream is 0.08, but studies have shown that even a blood alcohol content (BAC) level of 0.02 can affect a person's vision, concentration or reaction time, all of which are important to driving ability.

Today, we received a message from a sister of one our our Myspace friends, whom we have been exchanging messages the past few days. He's an aspiring artist from Sacramento and wanted advise, and we shared ideas too.

His sister, after reading his Myspace messages, contacted us to inform us that his brother and his girlfriend were killed by a drunk driver this morning at 3AM.  She also wanted us to remind our friends not to drink and drive, saying"Please, I lost my brother. Don't loose yours."

In memory and in honor of our Myspace friend, we're reminding you all not to drink and drive.
  • IBU Sings the National Anthem for Whitesox AUG 15

IBU (Inspired By U), Chicago’s multi-awarded R&B/Pop group will return to U.S. Cellular Field on Sunday, August 15, 2010. This will be the group’s fourteenth time to perform the National Anthem and the second time to sing “God Bless America” for the White Sox.

The group performed at eight games in 2005 including one game against the Boston Red Sox during League Division Series. The White Sox won the World Series in 2005. Consequently, IBU performed at three more games in 2006, one in 2007, and one in 2009, with the White Sox winning every game they sang for except for one game on June 8, 2007 when the Sox lost to Houston Astros. IBU was absent from the field in 2008 when they took a self-imposed hiatus to record their 2nd album which was released in November 2009 and distributed by Koch/E1 Entertainment.

IBU is glad to be back on the field this year. Not only will they sing the National Anthem, they will also sing “God Bless America” for the second time, which will take place at the middle of the 7th Inning. The first time they sang “God Bless America” at the field was on August 27, 2006.

So what is it like for IBU? “It’s always exciting to perform in front of a crowd as big as the US Cellular field (which has a capacity of 40,615). At one time, they had a jet fly over as we finished the National Anthem, and another time the Navy Seals carrying flags including the American flag parachuted into the field while we were singing. At our second performance in 2005, right after we sang the National Anthem, a UPS truck drove around the field and stopped where we were and delivered a package. In it was a baseball. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen approached us and signed the ball. We still have it. We even have a legacy brick bearing our name at the Diamond Plaza, in the main entrance (Gate 4). We were thrilled when we were asked to sing the anthem the first time. It’s a great honor to be asked for the fourteenth time. ”

IBU has indeed become a White Sox favorite. But is IBU the White Sox lucky charm too? Let’s see what happens on August 15.

    IBU White Sox performances :

April 16, 2005 White Sox vs Seattle Mariners

  • IBU Reunites With Sway Penala ( American Idol 5 ) at House of Blues AUG 12

IBU Reunites with Sway Penala ( American Idol Season 5 ) at House Of Blues

IBU is honored and is looking forward to once again share the stage with American Idol Season 5 finalist, Sway Penala on Thursday, August 12 at the House Of Blues in Chicago. The event is aptly called “Serenade,” and this time, IBU and Sway will do a number together.

IBU and Sway are longtime friends. IBU members, Jonathan, Tommy and Mike first met Sway Penala when he was with DnH ( Drop and Harmony ) back in 2001 when IBU went to San Francisco to witness an Awards Night gala where some of the country’s top Asian American Artists, including KAI, Pinay, Innerlude, DnH, and the cast of the movie “The Debut” were honored.

Soon after, Sway joined Errol Viray and Drey Silva, two members of Geffen recording artist, KAI and Cyrus Mallare, a member of Straight Hit’s Innerlude to record Your Call - a project supporting 9/11 survivors. They formed 6th Day and toured the US and Asia tirelessly during the following years.

On February 1, 2002, IBU joined 6th day at a concert produced by Still Real Productions in Detroit Michigan, followed by another show on November 13 of the same year at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. That created a close friendship between IBU and Sway, whose vocal prowess they admire.

Then came Sway’s stint with American Idol during a brief hiatus from 6th Day. In the meantime, IBU had the honor to perform with other American Idols including Jordan Segundo, Camile Velasco and Jennifer Hudson. It wasn’t until March 27, 2007 when IBU got reunited with Sway when they shared the stage at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb IL. IBU is looking forward to an exclusive and rare performance together with their long time friend, now an American idol alum himself.

“Serenade” is an intimate gathering not only to promote Sway’s recently released album “My Story,” but it also showcases Chicago’s top vocal performers such as Ashley Barrera, The Risq ( featuring Francis Perfecto), Manny Garcia, Charleen, The Latter the Former, Bentley and IBU. “Serenade” will be the 1st of many Asian American talent showcase events to come to this world renowned venue. The show is hosted by B96’s Julian On The Radio. The event is produced by DynastyRemix. 17+ to enter, 21+ to drink. Doors open at 7:30PM. “ Back To School” After Party will follow the event, with DJ D Double, Dot.Three, Rain, Kid Trae and Marky Boy.
