Bio
Gallows Humor is the inaugural CD from Johnny Dunn & Co. and it's a musical journey that you'll be glad to have taken. Quite a departure from Dunn's previous forays into the blues and blues/rock, Gallows Humor delves deep into Motown R&B, 'blue-eyed' soul and funk. From the Van Morrison-esque "More Than Less" through the 'funked up' sound on "Motown Memory" and "Rock Steady"...Dunn stretches out and shows off his diverse musical chops. The pop/soul feel on "Time to Move On" and the R&B flavor of "I've Been Around" (reminiscent of Clarence Carter) takes you into Dunn's musical soul. You get the feeling that Johnny Dunn would be right at home playing with the "Funk Bros" in Berry Gordy's Detroit basement or as a session player on tracks recorded for the 'stable of stars' from the early days of Atlantic Records. Musically and lyrically, the album covers basic human emotions, like pain and anger...sadness and acceptance, but all the while, carrying along the undercurrent of optimism and hope. It's a testament to the healing power of music...and that power is deep inside all of us. Like I said, "Take the Ride...You'll Be Glad You Did!" -
