It sounds like our version of somebody's favorite songs! There is only a song or two in our sets that are our own. We play our own version of standard songs, our way. We like to make the music as accurate as we can, unless we feel we can make it .......better...and, we are a 3 piece Power Trio band so we try to sound thick, crunchy, punchy and dynamic in our delivery of songs from a very wide spectrum of music.
What the Hell, right? We have fun with the music we play, and we love to play it for you! IT'S A TRIBUTE TO THE BANDS WE LIKE AND THE SONGS THAT THEY WROTE! We are jammin on some very cool tunes! I want to thank my family for their support. Thank you to my sons Kevan, Kyle, and Carson and my wife Alma, lead singer for Hari Kari. To hear her visit: www.myspace.com/harikari_madmax and listen to her sing "Beware the Blade" on her former bassplayer Louie's myspace music player.
My first band was with the VAN HALEN boys- read more about that in the new book "Everybody Wants Some-The Van Halen Saga" best seller by Ian Christie, and read about that and other cool info below! My name is Kevan Hill and this is my personal music site! However it also shares info for www.thelandsharks.com because that site happens to have link hooked onto it, and I'm the Bass Player/Vocalist of the band and a founding member! Upgrades are coming soon to the Land Sharks website!
We are at Naja's Place 154 International Boardwalk, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 every Friday and Saturday night at 9pm and every Sunday afternoon of the month (except the last Sunday of the month) at 3pm working for our good friend the owner, and the awesome manager. We almost always skip the last Sunday of the month. And the owner is cool with me distributing some Street Machine CD's and we all thank the good folks for coming to Naja's!
I just want to say, I'M A LandShark!
I would love to give you more info about The Land Sharks, my very favorite band. I had another band it is called "Buster Chops" I still would call those guys and gig with them, but I'm too busy with the sharks. Read more below. Email me to book the Sharks! You will be glad that you did!
If you are looking for personal info about Kim or Achim, stop here, there is none!
.....most of this is a bit of my own musical history!
The music that you hear on track 1 & 6(my solo project CD) 'Street Machine' I wrote in my own studio and recorded with the help of my friend and awesome MONSTER'S OF ROCK guitarist Buzzy James. I have a history of doing studio recordings from way back-at MCA on sunset with Dwayne Eddie in 1975,Cheech & Chong's Next Movie 1980, Stargard MCA 1981, and then again WB 1982, Hours and hours as well with Buster Chops in the studio1991, and Moonshine in the studio with Michael Anthony (VH)1993, and with Dirk Dalton (Platinum Album Producer S Cassidy, B Manilow)in his awesome home studio 1992-1994 with everything he could ever want. I have sat in the studio console room at 5150 studios on several occasions during, the mastering of the Van Halen album "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and sat next to the famous Andy Johns and Ted Templeman, as well as countless bands I've been with in the studios for demos, some of which but not all are listed below. I have lots of studio time, yet I've always made music at home too! Even though I now own a digital multi-track recorder, not all of my home collection was created on it. The Street Machine CD is all "home made" music. Understand that it is part of my "Home" collection! I have way more too! I am very fortunate to have the experience that I have! The photo that shows when the 1st song Street Machine plays is taken from the Oct. 2, 2008 Cover of Easy Reader Magazine. Last April (2008) I represented The Land Sharks and I was featured (with others) on page 51 of the South Bay's "Beach" magazine, and I was fortunate to have my son/guitarist/vocalist Kyle McLay with me. He had a band called the Commandants, but now his band is called Ignorant Youth, with Kyle and other new members. That was at a photo shoot for a Cover picture for the South Bay's "Easy Reader" magazine. I'm (with others) on the cover of the October 2, 2008 Issue of "Easy Reader Magazine" holding my Fender Jazz Bass! Kyle often joins me on stage, Sundays at Naja's.
I am formerly a member of other groups including Broken Combs (1st band for me, Brian Hill and ED & Alex Van Halen). Read about my band with the Van Halen Brothers and my brother Brian and "The Broken Combs" our first 'ROCK' band back in 1964 on page 10 (and p65) of Ian Christie's best seller "Everybody Wants Some- the Van Halen Saga". Ed is quoted talking about "the Broken Combs" He mentions my brother Brian Hill and me (drummer & guitar) songs we played- originals like Boogie Booger and Rumpus. But he may recall that we also played an oldie "I like Bread & Butter" by the New Beats. The music we played was fun for us! We were kids growing up together. At school Ed and I were in the early morning music class at Hamilton Elementary School on Del Mar Avenue in Pasadena California where I attempted to play the cello and Ed was advanced on the violin! My mom would drive us at about 7:20 am. Our band "The Broken Combs" was about the time of the Beatles and the Brittish Invasion and what I remember most about our band was this incredible energy and desire to play and the VH boys being so talented! For young boys, we took our band very seriously! I visited Ed Van Halen's house 'up there' several times as well as for the mastering of 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'. They had my brother Brian and me over to their sound stage for rehearsal in North Hollywood on several occasions. Ed and Alex are very cool people and have always treated me and my brother Brian like good friends. I have been friends with them since about 1963! Also, Ed talks about the Broken combs more in April 1985 "Guitar" Magazine, & May-June 1988 "Music Connection" Magazine, as well as various "Rolling Stone" Magazine interviews and I have more to tell you about when we were kids, later. In mid-teenage years I took up bass guitar and I was in Adrenalin (w/Tim Palmatier & Greg Berryman) and we opened for Van Halen at Gazzari's, later, I toured Canada & Western U.S.A. with a UNION Band Pices (1st one)also Snowblind, Avalanche, Twisters -played everywhere w Mike, Andy, Butch & Steve, I played with Dino's Revenge w/Hollywood Fats & Marshall Rohner & Steve Ameche & Butch Azevedo,I was with the Hot Rodders rockin Club Lingerie, Wong's West, Music Machine & more( w/Pat French, David & Danny Rotter)Dave is playing guitar on "Street Machine" CD trk 5 & 7, I played in Black Patti, The BlackHeads w/Pam Goodchild & Lori Wilhelm, I played with Gavaldon, and Producer/Musician Dirk Dalton rockin the Whiskey, Troubador, and Gazarri's, I played with Ground Zero doing numerous TV shows-w/Barry Squire, Stan Bush-CBS, Steve Ameche, I was in Killler and did the sound track for "Cheech & Chongs Next Movie" MCA, and in Stargard I recorded 2 albums (Back2Back WB & 9 Lives MCA w Rochelle Runnells, produced by Mark Davis & Norman Whitfield-Motown),I Played Bass for David Hasselhoff in Night Rider,I played Bass for Appolonia in Falcon Crest and numerous other tv shows & commercials- Life Magazine Commercial w Christie Brinkley & Jerry Hausman, I was in numerous other bands and I was in Buster Chops rockin the Whisky, the Roxy, the Marquee, Gazarri's, Troubador & Red Onion KNAC nights(Steve Krall, Dan Read, Buzzy and Me- featured on KNAC & KLOS) about 1989 to 1991 and we were on a compilation album "Hottest of Hollywood" co-produced by Warren DiMartini of Ratt and had lots of half page and quarter page and even full page adds in Bam and Rock City News Magazines. And more recently without Steve Krall, Buster Chops has performed on a few occassions (2006 & 2007) at Naja's with Myself, Buzzy, and Dan Read. That is 'my other band' when the Sharks can't play and it kicks ASS. I was working around town with a few local bar bands -Rocket, Mike Forbes band, and Squeeze Play which was booked every weekend all around So Cal with Rich Harper-Guitar (who I later brought into the Land Sharks from 1996-1999 Before we found the Incredible Kim Cuda-2000) when I was drafted by Moonshine a project produced by Mike Anthony, backed by Sammy and supported by Ed and Alex VH.By the way, Mike Anthony and Sammy Haggar are great people too as well as the VH boys. I was in Moonshine (1992-93) w/Mike Anthony of VH producing & Sammy 4th song & picture on music player shows me and my Moonshine band sitting with Sammy Haggar on his Dune Buggy when he hosted us at the Cabo Wabo where we hung out with Sammy and partied in the Cantina and had huge shrimp and margueritas on the beach for 5 days and 5 nights! My friend Craig Defalco was instrumental in putting together the band Moonshine which featured Derek Davis-Babylon A.D., Brian Fox-Silent Rage, Craig Defalco and Buzzy James from LaidLaw (2006 tour with Van Halen) and Buzzy also of Buster Chops as well. And as I mentioned, my good friend Buzzy is shredding the guitar on 2 songs that you hear; Street Machine and Stoney Buzzy. Good Times! Our Moonshine demo was mastered 'up there' !! It sounds great but so many factors come into play...politics!
The Land Sharks is my favorite band of all, with the GREATEST songs, Kim Cuda on Guitar, Achim Britfeld on Drums and vocals and me Kevan Hill on Bass guitar and vocals. We have the most experience, the best equipment and the very best sound of any band in any bar or any other venue! It's true! It's the ultimate power trio/party band! Mike Anthony (VH) told me, "name your price Kev" for my (1966 hopped-up/custom built) Ampeg SVT amp! I said, "Sorry Mike, it's not for sale, it's part of what gives me 'My' sound!" Mike is endorsed by Ampeg! The LandSharks have a way of capturing the crowd with 'smoldering sounds'.....I still have the smoldering sounds but now with the same superior speaker cabinet as well as a 2008 Gallien Kruger 480 watt (1100 watts peak) amp which is quite 'beefy'.
Hammer Head (song 2 and 2nd picture showing Buster Chops without Steve Krall) is a LandShark song! "Stoney Buzzy" (3rd song & 3rd pic show Buster Chops- w/me on the left, Dan Read to my right, then Buzzy James, Steve Krall on the far right) is a bluesy groove "2:57am" (4th song & picture with Sammy Haggar I wrote while I was putting together some new demos but has nothing to do with Sammy or Moonshine), "One for My Baby, and One for the Road" (track 6) isn't a LandSharks song in anyway shape or form. It sounds just like "BigDaddyBlueEyes" an underground cult crooner with a similar style to Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. I sing it, but I am not sure of where exactly it is from. I think my friend Steve Ameche may have played the piano track back in the daze, but I can't be sure...I just don't know...The picture that shows up when this song is up on the MySpace music player is a classic! It shows us in my first band "The Broken Combs", which featured myself, my brother Brian Hill, and Ed & Alex Van Halen (now WB) back in 1964! Now...I know Ed is playing the piano in the picture but the track may be Steve ameche or Dave Rotter...I'm not sure...Steve? Maybe someone else is playing that piano...."The Time is Now" (track 5 & pic 5) is a SPACE ROCKIN Tune I wrote in the 80's but later thought it might be cool for The LandSharks. It flies fast through inner and outer space and features Rochelle Runnels-keyboards (Stargard MCA & WB), David Rotter-Guitar (Hot Rodders) and when he came into the studio to play on some tracks with me, and he did it SO well! My friend Mark Kelly plays on some other tunes of mine such as 'The Dragon & the Tiger' which can be heard on my 'martial arts' website www.streetbox.us then click the MySpace link at the top of the 2nd page! Please visit it!
