  • Bio

I did not write tracks the standard tracks you recognize but I'm singing them. Other songs on the player I did by myself in a home studio, or at another studio with other musicians. My name is Kevan Hill and this is my personal music site! However it also shares info for www.thelandsharks.com because that site happens to have link hooked onto it, and I'm the Bass Player/Vocalist of the band and a founding member! I'm very thankful for my colorful musical career and I want to say for all these things I thank GOD! My first band was with the VAN HALEN boys- read a little more about that in the 2007 book "Everybody Wants Some-The Van Halen Saga" best seller by Ian Christie, and read about that and other cool info below! But in addition to that I appeared and performed in Movies, TV shows shown all over the world, and Major Record Label/albums found in Tower Records and Warehouse record stores everywhere since 1980. My Cheech & Chong Movie Soundtrack has paid me royalties for more than 30 years thanks to Rochelle Runnels watching out for us. I have been fortunate ....and hard working! read below! Everyone I mention was nothing but cool to me when I knew them, or I don't mention them! Also, I do lots of musical projects. I'm a singer as well as a bass player that plays other instruments too and one of my "Singing" projects can be found at: www.myspace.com/bigdaddysings where I can be found singing Swing style good time music! Please check it out! We Landsharks are at Naja's Place 154 International Boardwalk, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 every Friday and Saturday night at 9pm and every Sunday afternoon of the month (except the last Sunday of the month) at 2pm working for our good friend the owner, and the awesome manager. We almost always skip the last Sunday of the month. And the owner is cool with me distributing some Street Machine CD's and we all thank the good folks for coming to Naja's! I just want to say, I'M A LandShark! I would love to give you more info about The Land Sharks, my very favorite band. Email me to book the Sharks! You will be glad that you did! If you are looking for personal info about Kim or Achim, stop here, there is none! We Sharks are always adding new songs and classic songs. .....most of this is a bit of my own musical history! Google any of these people listed below- fun! The music that you hear on track 1 (my solo project CD) 'Street Machine' I wrote in my own studio and recorded with the help of my friend and awesome MONSTER'S OF ROCK guitarist Buzzy James. I have a history of doing studio recordings from way back-at MCA on sunset with Dwayne Eddie in 1975,Cheech & Chong's Next Movie MCA 1980, Stargard MCA 1981, and then again Stargard on WB 1982, and studio demos with the Twisters (1983-84) who had recordings already on Rhino and MCA, with Dinos Revcenge i have material recorded (1986) with the late great Hollywood Fats, Hours and hours as well with Jerry and Jimmy Gavaldon 1987, Buster Chops (www.myspace.com/566805118) in the studio 1990 & 1991, and Moonshine in the studio with Michael Anthony (VH)1993, and with Dirk Dalton (Platinum Album Producer for Sean Cassidy & Barry Manilow)in his awesome home studio 1992-1994 with everything anyone could ever want. I have sat in the studio console room at Van Halen's 5150 studios on several occasions during, the mastering of the Van Halen album "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" (1992-93) and sat near the famous Andy Johns and Ted Templeman- that was a nice studio too, as well as countless bands I've been with in the studios for demos, some of which but not all are listed below. I have lots of studio time, yet I've always made music at home too! Even though I now own a digital multi-track recorder, not all of my home collection was created on it. The Street Machine CD is allpre-digital "home made" music. The photo that shows when the 1st song Street Machine plays is taken from the Oct. 2, 2008 Cover of Easy Reader Magazine. Last April (2008) I represented The Land Sharks and I was featured (with others) on page 51 of the South Bay's "Beach" magazine, and I was fortunate to have my son/guitarist/vocalist Kyle McLay with me. His band is called Infectdead, with Kyle and other new members. They recently played at the Key Club in Hollywood with the Addicts and then again with Fear and in November 2010 with the Misfits. That was at a photo shoot for a Cover picture for the South Bay's "Easy Reader" magazine. I'm (with others) on the cover of the October 2, 2008 Issue of "Easy Reader Magazine" holding my Fender Jazz Bass! Kyle often joins me on stage, Sundays at Naja's. I am formerly a member of other groups including Broken Combs (1st band for me, Brian Hill and ED & Alex Van Halen). Read about my band with the Van Halen Brothers and my brother Brian and "The Broken Combs" our first 'ROCK' band back in 1964 on page 10 (and p65) of Ian Christie's best seller "Everybody Wants Some- the Van Halen Saga". Ed is quoted talking about "the Broken Combs" He mentions my brother Brian Hill and me (drummer & guitar) songs we played- originals like Boogie Booger and Rumpus. But he may recall that we also played an oldie "I like Bread & Butter" by the New Beats. The music we played was fun for us! We were kids growing up together. At school Ed and I were in the early morning music class at Hamilton Elementary School on Del Mar Avenue in Pasadena California where I attempted to play the cello and Ed was advanced on the violin! My mom would drive us at about 7:20 am. Our band "The Broken Combs" was about the time of the Beatles and the Brittish Invasion and what I remember most about our band was this incredible energy and desire to play and the VH boys being so talented! For young boys, we took our band very seriously! I visited Ed Van Halen's house 'up there' in the Hollywood Hills several times as well as for the mastering of 'For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge'. They had my brother Brian and me over to their sound stage for rehearsal in North Hollywood on several occasions. Ed and Alex are very cool people and have always treated me and my brother Brian like good friends. I have been friends with them since we were small in about 1964! Also, Ed talks about the Broken combs more in April 1985 "Guitar" Magazine, & May-June 1988 "Music Connection" Magazine, as well as various "Rolling Stone" Magazine interviews and I have more to tell you about when we were kids, later. I had played guitar since about age 8 and with the Broken Combs, of course. In mid-teenage years I took up bass guitar and I was in Adrenalin (w/Tim Palmatier & Greg Berryman) and we opened for Van Halen at Gazzari's, later, I toured Canada & Western U.S.A. with a UNION Band Picses (1st one)also Snowblind, Avalanche, Twisters -played everywherebooked mostly by Geoff Hagens w Mike Wainwright , Andy Milukoff , Butch Azevedo & Steve Ameche, I played with Dino's Revenge with the late greats- Hollywood Fats & Marshall Rohner, and the still rockin' Steve Ameche & Butch Azevedo, I was with the Hot Rodders rockin Club Lingerie, Wong's West, Music Machine & more( w/Pat French, David & Danny Rotter)Dave is playing guitar on "Street Machine" CD trk 5 & 7, I played in Black Patti, The BlackHeads w/Pam Goodchild & Lori Wilhelm, I played with (Jimmy & Jerry) Gavaldon with Steve Ely & Kevin Danzak, and The Dalton Gang with Producer/Musician Dirk Dalton rockin the Whiskey, Troubador, and Gazarri's, I played with Ground Zero doing numerous TV shows-w/Barry Squire, Stan Bush(CBS rec.), best friend Steve Ameche, I was in Killler and did the sound track for "Cheech & Chongs Next Movie" MCA Universal 1980, and in Stargard I recorded 2 albums (Back2Back WB & 9 Lives MCA w Rochelle Runnells, produced by Mark Davis & Norman Whitfield-Motown),I Played Bass for David Hasselhoff in Night Rider,I played Bass for Appolonia in Falcon Crest and numerous other tv shows & commercials-I was featured in a Life Magazine Commercial w Christie Brinkley & Jerry Hausman, I was in numerous other bands and I was in Buster Chops rockin the Whisky, the Roxy, the Marquee, Gazarri's, Troubador & Red Onion KNAC nights(Steve Krall, Dan Read, Buzzy and Me- featured on KNAC & KLOS) about 1989 to 1991 and we were on a compilation album "Hottest of Hollywood" co-produced by Warren DiMartini of Ratt and had lots of half page and quarter page and even full page adds in Bam and Rock City News Magazines advertizing our upcoming Gazzari's, Whisky, Roxy, and Troubadour Shows. And more recently without Steve Krall, Buster Chops has performed on a few occassions (2006 & 2007) at Naja's with Myself, Buzzy, and Dan Read. I was working around town with a few local bar bands -Rocket, Mike Forbes band, and Squeeze Play which was booked every weekend all around So Cal with Rich Harper-Guitar (who I later brought into the Land Sharks from 1996-1999 Before we found the Incredible Hot Guitarist and Rock and Roll Machine Kim Cuda-2000) when I was drafted by Moonshine a project produced by Mike Anthony, backed by Sammy and supported by Ed and Alex VH. By the way, Mike Anthony and Sammy Haggar are great people too (the greatest) as well as the VH boys. I was in Moonshine (1992-93) w/Mike Anthony of VH producing & Sammy 4th song & picture on music player shows me and my Moonshine band sitting with Sammy Haggar on his Dune Buggy when he hosted us at the Cabo Wabo where we hung out with Sammy and partied in the Cantina and had huge shrimp and margueritas on the beach for 5 days and 5 nights! My friend Craig Defalco (Now Laidlaw guitarist)was instrumental in putting together the band Moonshine which featured Vocalist Derek Davis of Babylon A.D., Drummer Brian Fox of Silent Rage, Me on Bass, Craig Defalco and Buzzy James Guitarist from LaidLaw (2006 tour with Van Halen) and Buzzy also of Buster Chops as well. And as I mentioned, my good friend Buzzy is shredding the guitar on 2 songs that you hear; Street Machine and Stoney Buzzy. I have stuck some other tunes in there after Street Machine which I am only singing- just for fun and because I'm always working on my singing! My voice is an instrument I would "Like" to develope! Good Times! Our Moonshine demo was mastered 'up there' at 5150 srtudios!! It sounds great but so many factors come into play...politics! The Land Sharks is Kim Cuda on Guitar, Achim Britfeld on Drums and vocals and me Kevan Hill on Bass guitar and vocals. We have the most experience, the best equipment and the very best sound of any band in any bar or any other venue! It's true! It's the ultimate power trio/party band! I've always had a certain sound due partly to my Fender P Bass, my various Ampeg SVT an V4B cabinets Mike Anthony (VH) told me, "name your price Kev" for my (1966 hopped-up/custom built) Ampeg SVT amp! I said, "Sorry Mike, it's not for sale, it's part of what gives me 'My' sound!" Mike is endorsed by Ampeg. The LandSharks have a way of capturing the crowd with 'smoldering sounds'.....I still have the smoldering sounds but now with the same superior speaker cabinets as well as a 2008 Gallien Kruger 700 watt amp which is quite 'beefy'. I also have 2 200watt GK heads as back up, another SVT Cabinet similar to the one I use at Naja's, a large Ampeg V4B (2x15) Bass Cabinet, a Crate B220watt (1x15) combo, a GK half stack (4x10) external speaker, Crate B15 (1x8) combo, Roland Bass Cube, Roland Mini Cube, Fender Jazz Bass, Black Fender P Bass, White Fender JP Bass, Ibanez Black Electric Bass, Ibanez Black Acoustic/Electric Bass, Black Fender Stratocaster, Marshall 10 watt mini amp, Tascam Digital 8 track Studio, Yamaha 300 watt PA System 2 (2x15 w horns) 450watt Mains and 2 (2x10 w horns) 150watt floor monitors with stands mics & cables, Boss Digital drum Machine, Yamaha fully loaded custom deluxe concert Drum Set including cymbals, hardware, w heavy duty cymbal & tom tom rack. I didn't realize i have all this stuff...I am very blessed, very fortrunate, and very busy! Hammer Head features myself on Bass & Vocals, John Worely guitar and Greg Cage (now in Canned Heat)on drums (song 2 and 2nd picture showing Buster Chops without Steve Krall-picture has nothing to do with Landsharks) It is a LandShark song I wrote and we play it often at Naja's! "Stoney Buzzy" (3rd song & 3rd pic show Buster Chops- w/me on the left, Dan Read to my right, then Buzzy James, Steve Krall on the far right) is a bluesy groove featuring Buzzy on guitar and me on Bass. "2:57am" (4th song & picture with Sammy Haggar I wrote while I was putting together some new demos but this song has nothing to do with Sammy or Moonshine), "One for My Baby, and One for the Road" isn't a LandSharks song in anyway shape or form. It is "BigDaddyBlueEyes" an underground cult crooner (me) with a similar style to Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennett. Not exactly but from the same bag. I sing it and my friend Steve Ameche may have played the piano track back in the daze, but I can't be sure...I just don't know...The picture that shows up when this song is up on the MySpace music player is a classic! It shows us in my first band "The Broken Combs", which featured myself, my brother Brian Hill, and Ed & Alex Van Halen (now WB) back in 1964! Now...I know Ed is playing the piano in the picture but the track may be Steve ameche or Dave Rotter...I'm not sure...Steve? Dave? Where are ya? Maybe someone else is playing that piano...."The Time is Now" (track 5 & pic 5) is a SPACE ROCKIN Tune I wrote in the 80's but later thought it might be cool for The LandSharks. It flies fast through inner and outer space and features myself on Bass, My Cheech & Chong music director Rochelle Runnels-keyboards (Stargard MCA & WB), David Rotter-Guitar (Hot Rodders) When he came into the studio to play on some tracks with me, and he did it SO well! My friend Mark Kelly plays on some other tunes of mine such as 'The Dragon & the Tiger' which can be heard on my 'martial arts' website www.streetbox.us then click the Streetbox Martial Arts Music link at the top of the 2nd page! ...that is the same as if you just visit www.myspace.com/streetboxmusic and...another site of mine is: www.myspace.com/kevanhill And...if you are into Frank Sinatra style music, please check out my music player at a brand new site of mine: www.myspace.com/bigdaddysings Listen to the tunes now and read the info that will be posted there soon! Look for the Land Sharks on 'YouTube'! My son Kyle Mclay is now the guitrarist for "The Infected" Search "The Land Sharks at Naja's Place featuring 'Kyle Mclay' Guest Guitarist" and Search "The Land Sharks at Naja's Place with Kyle Mclay New Year's Eve" doing tributes to 'White Stripes' and 'ACDC', and "The LandSharks at Naja's Place STP tribute Kevan Hill Singing, Achim-Drums, Kim-Guitars" Video Cameraman, Black Belt (Kenpo Karate and TV/Movie star) Kevan John Lee Hill (ABC's Castle and Alvin & the Chipmunks 2) watch a clip from those 2 shows when you visit my karate website main page and scroll all the way down: www.streetbox.us/karatehome.html Kevan is also now appearing in "Burlesque" with Christina Aguilera and Cher and he worked on it for 3 weeks... Kyle is playing with his ban "The Infectdead" on October 28, 2010 at the Key Club in Hollywood with FEAR, and again on November 12, 2010 with the MISFITS! The Good News for LandSharks Fans is that all the real juicy"dirt" could be exposed soon because my official www.thelandsharks.com mini-movie "Shark Bite"is near completion! But I'll let ya know. You'll either get nothing, or way more than you wanted to know! Nothing may be better! I've been at Naja's basically since I came back from Cabo Wabo and left Moonshine in 1993, when the moon-shiners took a break and The Land Sharks have ROCKED the House every time, ever since. It gets packed out, no advertisement needed! Me and Achim have been there 2 DECADES and Kim has been with us since 2000! Get onto my Land Sharks email list! then you will receive updates from time to time, not too much, usually just about the schedule! email me, and thank you for being a LANDSHARK FAN! • Influences

I am not under the influence...and I just added several songs to the music player which I did not write...one is acdc, one is ramones, and CCR, Beastie Boys, Judas Priest and more. But it says "by Kevan Hill", but on those cover songs, only the vocals are sung by me, and not written by me. I can also be heard singing much different music at: www.myspace.com/bigdaddysings. It is Frank Sinatra style music. Right now I'm not selling any music
  • Sounds Like

It sounds like our version of somebody's favorite songs! There is only a song or two in our sets that are our own. We play our own version of standard songs, our way. We like to make the music as accurate as we can, unless we feel we can make it .......better...and, we are a 3 piece Power Trio band so we try to sound thick, crunchy, punchy and dynamic in our delivery of songs from a very wide spectrum of music. What the Hell, right? We have fun with the music we play, and we love to play it for you! IT'S A TRIBUTE TO THE BANDS WE LIKE AND THE SONGS THAT THEY WROTE! We are jammin on some very cool tunes! I want to thank my family for their support. Thank you to my sons Kevan, Kyle, and Carson and my wife Alma, lead singer for Hari Kari. To hear her visit: www.myspace.com/harikari_madmax and listen to her sing "The Blade" on her former bassplayer Louie's myspace

"2:57am" (4th song & picture with Sammy Haggar I wrote while I was putting together some new demos but this song has nothing to do with Sammy or Moonshine), "One for My Baby, and One for the Road" (track 6) isn't a LandSharks song in anyway shape or form. My friend Mark Kelly plays on some other tunes of mine such as 'The Dragon & the Tiger' which can be heard on my 'martial arts' website www.streetbox.us then click the Streetbox Martial Arts Music link at the top of the 2nd page! ...that is the same as if you just visit www.myspace.com/kevanhill Please visit it! Look for the Land Sharks on 'YouTube'! My son Kyle Mclay is now the guitrarist for "The Infected" Search "The Land Sharks at Naja's Place featuring 'Kyle Mclay' Guest Guitarist" and Search "The Land Sharks at Naja's Place with Kyle Mclay New Year's Eve" doing tributes to 'White Stripes' and 'ACDC', and "The LandSharks at Naja's Place STP tribute Kevan Hill Singing, Achim-Drums, Kim-Guitars" Video Cameraman (and TV/Movie star) Kevan John Lee Hill (ABC's Castle and Alvin & the Chipmunks 2) watch a clip from those 2 shows when you visit my karate website main page and scroll all the way down: www.streetbox.us/karatehome.html The Good News for LandSharks Fans is that all the real juicy"dirt" could be exposed soon because my official www.thelandsharks.com mini-movie "Shark Bite"is near completion! Sounds Like:

To hear her visit: www.myspace.com/harikari_madmax and listen to her sing "The Blade" on her former bassplayer Louie's myspace music player. She just played her record release party with her paper tigers band 'God and Country' in San Pedro, CA at Harold's Bar along with fellow members of Hari Kari, Black Flag, Fear and Social Distortion.
