  • Bio

Rosey began her eclectic career as a rock n' roll soul siren on Island/Def Jam. Since her 2002 debut album "Dirty Child,' her remarkable career has indeed taken many exciting twists and turns throughout several unconventional musical associations. Following instant national attention from her single "Love" in Bridget Jones's Diary and a laundry list of other movie soundtracks to follow, the tunesmith toured with the lauded likes of Melissa Etheridge and Morcheeba. Entertainment Weekly penned her as "The lovechild of Robert Plant & Rickie Lee Jones." And Rolling Stone, Billboard & Blender Magazine awarded her with 4 glowing stars. Outside of her own interests, she's also teamed up as a co-writer on many occasions, from hit maker Kelis and Raphael Saadiq, to a number of burgeoning artists & DJ's and Producers, as well as session singing & writing jingles for commercials. On her sophomore effort, Rosey found the delicate balance between the eras on The Luckiest Girl, her smoky, sensual, self-produced Jazz album released on the Quango Music Group label. "I always dreamed of making timeless music. And after several years working in LA in sessions as a pop writer I wanted to do something more creative and less contrived. Jazz seemed like this huge thing that would be impossible to master, but after a few years of constant study and hard work I realized I didn't have to master it, just enjoy it and start recording!" The albums entirely original collection of jazz songs, simultaneously tips its hat to Rosey's heroes of yesteryear (which include Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Etta James), wrapped around an undeniably contemporary appeal. "Making 'Luckiest Girl" really helped me to come to life as an artist and a women and really be free to find my voice. And producing it was the icing on the cake. From the incredible musicians who blessed my songs to the amazing people who believed in me enough to help me make that record, I truly felt like the Luckiest Girl." Her next album, would find her using her real name Nancy Kaye, as the singer & songwriter for the world-electronica band Lal Meri. Their debut album "Lal Meri" was released in 2009 by Six Degrees Records to critical acclaim and even compared to the Beatles By NPR's All thing's Considered for it's "clever crafting of good old fashioned song-writing." "Ever since my college DJ days at WERS in Boston, where I hosted a four year world music radio show, I wanted to make trip-hop music with live instruments & sing in other languages. And it manifested right before my eyes." The live band and album featured Turkish instruments & Indian tabla drums. "Our Indian singer Pooja Lal, would meet us in LA for tours, writing and recording sessions. We wrote songs together in English that were translated into Hindi, which is such a beautiful and poetic language. It was amazing to watch the stories shift words and meanings as they evolved. Pooja taught me what the words meant and I sang them with her in Hindi, which was so much fun!" Opening the door to the club and dance world put her back in the Producer/DJ hot seat. With releases on Govinda's "Universal On Switch," Carmen Rizzo's "Looking Through Leaves," Beat Ventriloquist's "Goodnight Memory" and Konishi Yasuharu's latest "Pizzicato One" album on Sony Jazz Classics, she took back her Rosey moniker and wrote some of the sexiest songs of her career. "I love when people send me hot beats that I can sit at home and write in the dark to, it's one of my favorite things to do." And the door is wide open. After 12 years of jumping coasts from NYC to LA looking for her next project, it was one trip to the Georgia countryside that made her realize her connection with nature was more important than any opportunity she could find living the big city life. She packed her bags and kissed LA and the pop record she was making there goodbye to follow her own passions and begin anew. It didn't take long before she found a community of incredibly talented musicians. "I found that down here, without all the distractions of the 'music business,' artists can actually focus on writing good songs from their hearts… which is such a relief!" She was so inspired by this new wealth of talent, that with her newfound friends she stared a collective called Creek Kin. "We are like a family of people growing up along the same stream of fresh springs budding with life and song." Together the collective houses 5 bands, The Law, Trapper's Cabin, The Trevor Turville Band, The Hill Band and the one and only, Nancy Kaye. "It's a lot of work being in 5 bands, but the music is totally inspiring and I have a new family now, and the great love there makes the ground very fertile for growing all kinds of wonderful new songs." Currently this rosey girl finds herself re-discovering her rock n' roll and blues roots. She is back in the studio and back to her real name, recording her debut album as Nancy Kaye. "I like having an alter-ego. Rosey can go off and have fun in Jazz clubs and all night dance parties, while I hide out at home and make psychedelic records inspired by English rock gods of the 70's. There are no limits to what we can do today as artists and people. So why bother with such silly things as limits when we can seize the moment and live the life of our dreams." Her 2011 fall release entitled "In The Light" is what she considers her most inspired and greatest work to date. She plans to take it and Creek Kin on the road with her this September to begin the next leg of her musical journey that is sure to be paved with stars. "When you believe your path is blessed, than everything has a way of working out right. But with positive intention there must be action! And I've never been more ready to fly." An inspiring story of CHRISTMAS for you Rosey!

TODAY'S THOUGHT IS "THE CHRISTMAS WISH" ...

"With his small hands clasped together
    He kneeled beside his bed
Trying to wipe the tears away
This is what the small boy said.
    .
Dear Lord, I miss my daddy so
He's been gone almost a year
And it's really hard on mom right now
    Since Christmas Eve is here.
    .
I do my best to help her
I've done the things I should
If you'll please bring me a puppy dog
    I promise to be good.
    .
I get to missing dad so much
Though I know he's there with you
I think a pup would cheer me up
And soothe me when I'm blue.
    .
So, the little boy fell off to sleep
    And drifted far away
He dreamed of fluffy puppy dogs
That chased him in his play.

    Then something strange awakened him
In the middle of the night
He felt a presence in the room
But no one was in sight.
    .
The little boy looked all around
There was not a soul to greet
But a SMALL AND FLUFFY PUPPY
Curled up there at his feet.
    .
    WISHES REALLY DO COME TRUE
In his heart he felt so glad
    The tag attached said simply
TO YOU DEAR SON ... FROM DAD."

    ~ Marilyn Ferguson
