Lucky theatergoers got a big treat on Saturday night … when an all-star cast including Brad Pitt and George Clooney performed in Dustin Lance Black’s play about Proposition 8, California’s controversial ban on gay marriage – in Los Angeles.

    .
Proposition 8 eliminates Rights of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. It was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment passed in the November 2008 state elections. The measure added a new provision that “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.”

    .
The performance was a reversal of sorts as some openly gay members of the cast read the testimony of those opposed to same sex marriage.

Brad, who played the role of Judge Vaughn Walker, is impassioned about the issue and has said that he and longtime partner Angelina Jolie won’t tie the knot until “everyone can.”

    .
“We live in this great country that is about freedom,” he once told Ellen DeGeneres. “It is defined by our freedom and equality and yet we allow this discrimination to go on everyday and that’s not what we’re about. That’s not what makes us great. Until that is reversed. I just don’t get it.”

First, this is only my opinion and like most it will probably offend some. I am “straight” but that shouldn’t matter. Each of us is raised by parents, teachers and mentors who instill in us to love one another as we would want to be loved. Therefore the hypocrisy of some to try and deny that love to others is such a terrible thing. I believe that love between two people, any two people, should only be judged on how real it is, not by the people in love. To me, to see such love on their faces should be stared at in envy and not in judgment. I only hope to have that same look on my face someday.
