    .
It may seem like things had taken a turn for the better for our high school heroine, Jenna’s world suddenly isn’t so peachy. Last week on Awkward., we said goodbye to Jenna’s dad, as he left mom in the dust following her confession that she was the one behind the cruel letter. And Jenna’s feeling guilty about inadvertently being the cause of her parent’s breakup, so she’s doing whatever she can to make herself feel better, even if that means going to church. The allure of the donuts is strong, y’all.

She’s not feeling comfortable at home, so she decides to head to church camp. Tamara is bummed that she’s not going to spend her shame cloud watching rom-coms with her, but c’est la vie. Meanwhile, Sadie is upset that it seems that Jenna is infiltrating her friendship with Lissa, and she’s not gonna have that. And if there’s anyone you don’t want to piss off, it’s Sadie. Consider that a life lesson. You’re welcome.
    .
Val joins the club against Jenna’s born-again status, even though J commits to going to the camp in order to keep from enduring a double date with Matty and Jake, who recounts a sad story from Matty about some “lame” girl that dumped him over the summer. You know, JENNA. She’s so weary of an awkward encounter that she’d rather spend the weekend at a saints and sinners party with potentially toxic tacos. But little does she know, Sadie is on the express train to Jesus, and she’s hell-bent on keeping Jenna and Lissa apart.
    .
Back at Palos Hills, Tamara (home-bound after her cray cray incident at the assembly) is worried about Kyle, the “Jenna Lives” t-shirt wearing stalker. He’s copying her style, and she’s creeping out big time. And there’s reason to be. Dude’s a bit off. Afraid of being alone and missing her “roommate,” Jenna’s mom learns a thing about dining solo from Val. And after a few glasses of vino, the two “eat alone” together, swapping tips about being a party of one. It’s pretty charming. Maybe these two can be gal pals? Gal Pal Val needs to make a comeback.
    .
But things aren’t going all that well at camp, despite Jenna’s new friend Clark (a gay teen outed by Sadie last year). In the share circle, she learns that Lissa got a little hand-sy with Jake, which gives her the heebie-jeebies in a big way. And when Sadie forces her to recount her “suicide attempt” to the group, things get weird. But she declares her love for Satan, and later chats it up with Lissa and determines that she may not be so bad. In fact, she’s caused Jenna to see that maybe she needs a little more compassion in her life.
    .
And while her time with the Jesus-lovers turned out not to be a total bust, Jenna won’t be declaring her love for the cross any time soon. And after Matty apologizes profusely about potentially hurting Jenna’s feelings (seriously, can these two just get together?! Jake is a bore), they declare a truce and strive to keep things normal. But just as things seem to be OK between the two of them, Mr. McKibben checks out Lissa long and hard, and things change in an instant. Is Matty over his unrequited love? Can Jenna sit idly by while Matty falls for another lady? Time will tell.

    Quote of the week:

Isn’t forgiveness Jesus’ whole deal?!– Sadie
