    .
It’s a new year, and Jenna’s got a boyfriend who doesn’t mind having her out in the daylight. And she’s loving the fact that her new relationship is one that’s out and proud. But her joy is short-lived when the school realizes that the school’s security camera (the one pointed directly at the site of her Matty McKibben rendezvous of the previous year) has been compromised, and the tape may soon go viral. Whoopsietown.

Meanwhile, Jake (the male part of J-squared, which I’m deeming the new nickname of the Jenna and Jake duo) is fretting over Jenna’s previous nighttime companion, and complaining about it to Matty, who, unbeknownst to Jake, is the possessor of Jenna’s V-Card. Matty’s trying to brush things under the rug, but he’s also a bit worried about the camera’s contents getting out, even though he’s still in love with the big J. He gives Jenna an ultimatum – tell Jake the truth about the two of them, or let him find out scandalously and risk getting his feelings hurt.
    .
Val’s trying to get her hands on the tape, and enlists Jenna to help. And she’s not wasting any time in doing so. So poor Ming serves as the sacrificial lamb to eat lunch with the Asian crew to glean a little info. Unfortunately she gets in a little too deep, and perhaps gets inducted in tot he Asian Mafia in the process.
    .
Back on the home front, Jenna and mom are still having some issues, as J-town awaits the day when her mother will finally come clean about the heartbreaking letter she wrote last year. She pushes her to a big reveal at dinner, but her dad remains in the dark, as mom keeps mum.
    .
Palos Hills High is up in arms about the rogue footage, with the student body going bananas on campus. Jake questions Matty if he’s on it, Sadie admits that she and Matty made out, and even a school vegan fesses up to eating a cheeseburger when she thought she wasn’t being watched. And while Jake once again whines to Matty about Jenna’s previous conquest, he spills the beans that she admitted she loved her first beau. And with that, Matty’s on the run, finding Jenna solo in the parking lot and proclaiming “I Love You” before Jake shows up.
    .
Finally, Jake stops seeking the identity of her previous bedfellow, which doesn’t make things any easier on Jenna, who seemed almost ready to reveal.
    .
Matty tries once more to confront Jenna about his unrequited love, and he’s once again left hanging. Jenna doesn’t want to ruin things with her current paramour, even if she’s not ready to cut Matty out entirely. And while she’s thinking about keeping secrets, her mom finally reveals hers, telling her dad that she was the scribe behind the hurtful letter that changed Jenna’s life.
    .
Jake sneaks in Jenna’s back door (the only back door, she jokes, that he’ll ever have access to), and she breaks the news. Sort of. She doesn’t love the other guy anymore. She’s fully invested in Jake. But with dreamboat Matty McKibben lovelorn in the shadows, who knows how easy things will be for long…
