Opening this Friday, John Carter is the first mega blockbuster of 2012. While most of the footage we’ve seen so far has taken place on Mars, a new ten minute clip gives us a glimpse of John Carter before his interplanetary travels. Caught in the middle of conflict between military officers and Native Americans (not unlike the conflict he becomes a part of on Mars), the clip ends with a cliffhanger that perhaps has something to do with his first Martian encounter.

We’re just over a week away from the release of Disney’s much anticipated John Carter, and the newest (and final) trailer might be the most action-packed yet. Based on one of the most popular and influence science-fiction novels of all time, the story was a precursor of sorts to films such as Star Wars and Avatar. Taylor Kitsch plays John Carter, a 19th century Virginian who mysteriously wakes up on Mars. Carter finds himself in the middle of an intergalactic war–one he must stop not just to protect Mars, but to save Earth from certain destruction as well.

Opening in less than a month, Disney’s John Carter is literally 100 years in the making–the character first appeared in a 1912 magazine serial, and Hollywood has been trying for decades to bring one of the most famous science-fiction sagas to the big screen. Boasting a cast that includes Willem Dafoe (always a good sign), Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), and Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), the three stars sat down to talk about the film, of which they said “[it's] the ride of your life” and “the great white ape scene is worth the price of admission alone.”

The John Carter Super Bowl commercial was a great introduction to those who may not have heard of the film, but for those of you who had seen previous trailers, you were probably hoping for a little more. A new spot ran last night during the premiere of The River, and it’s loaded with action, highlighted by John Carter fighting a giant monster, among other martians.
